Show Love To One Another

The pandemic will one day come to an end, but not yet. There was a time not long ago when cases were dropping and at the church, we stopped requiring masks and started a refreshment time after church. Now with cases continuing to increase we suggest that people who attend in person wear a mask and keep the six-foot distance from people.

It is heart breaking that such a deadly disease has been so politicized. The people that are against mask wearing are only thinking of the self and not others. I think of all the people who because of their job have to wear a mask every day like nurses. One of our sons is an ICU nurse and even before the pandemic he wore a mask for his twelve-hour shift.
Yes, it is a minor inconvenience for those of us who did not have to wear a mask before this all began, but it is a very small price to pay for your own health and the health and wellbeing of those you may come in contact with on a daily basis.
People of faith understand, or at least they should, what it means to look out for the health and wellbeing of another. That is one of Jesus’ primary teachings, love one another. The simple act of wearing a mask is showing love to another person, another human being just like you.
Jesus says it very plainly in Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
The pandemic will come to an end, and we will all have stories to tell for the rest of our lives. Let those stories begin like this. “During the pandemic of 2020-21 the entire world suffered a great pandemic and the two most important things I did for myself, and others were to get the vaccine that was available for free and wore a mask whenever I was around people. My faith in God told me I have to look out for and love all people. It was such a simple thing to do.”
